Laser welding is a method of connecting materials together using a laser beam as a heat source. According to different classification methods, laser welding has different types. The following are several classifications:
1. According to the welding method:
*Laser wire filling welding: The laser beam is focused on the molten pool filled with welding material, melting and connecting the materials together.
*Laser non wire welding: The laser beam is directly focused on the workpiece, forming a welded joint through the melting and evaporation of the surface material of the workpiece.
2. According to the laser source:
*Solid state laser welding: uses a solid state laser as the light source, commonly including an Nd: YAG laser.
*Gas laser welding: using a gas laser as the light source, commonly including CO2 laser.
*Liquid laser welding: Using a liquid laser as the light source, common ones include dye lasers.


3. According to the power range:
*High power laser welding: suitable for welding thick plate materials, capable of welding larger joints.
*Medium power laser welding: suitable for materials of medium thickness and capable of welding joints of medium size.
*Low power laser welding: suitable for welding thin plates and fine wires, capable of welding smaller joints.
4. According to the focusing method of the laser beam:
*Focused laser welding: The laser beam is focused into a small spot, which can achieve a high energy density.
*Non focused laser welding: The laser beam is not focused and can weld larger joints, but with lower energy density.
5. According to the operation method:
*Automatic laser welding: Automated production of laser welding is achieved through robots or automated equipment.
*Manual laser welding: Welding is achieved by manually operating laser welding equipment.
6. Based on the working material:
*Vacuum laser welding, mixed gas laser welding, etc.
The above classification methods are not mutually exclusive, and some laser welding techniques may belong to multiple classification methods simultaneously. Overall, according to different application requirements and material types, suitable laser welding techniques can be selected to achieve welding connections.
